Getting into the STOA Hub
This guide is for STOA team members who have just received their invitation. It takes about ten minutes, once per device.
The Hub (STOA’s workspace) only opens through NetBird, STOA’s private network: a free, open-source app connected to STOA’s server. Without NetBird connected, the Hub’s address leads nowhere.
Contractors: you do not need NetBird. Your STOA contact will tell you how to reach your space.
Before you start
- Open the e-mail “Finish setting up your STOA access” and follow the link: choose your password and register a passkey (Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello, your phone or a security key). The link is valid for 3 days; after that, ask your STOA contact for a new one.
- Have the device you want to set up at hand: a computer (Windows, Mac, Linux) or a phone (iPhone, Android). On a computer, the installation may ask for the device’s administrator password.
1. Install NetBird
- Windows: download NetBird for Windows, open the file and follow the installer.
- Mac: Apple menu → About This Mac. If the “Chip” line says Apple M1, M2, M3 or M4: NetBird for Apple silicon Macs; otherwise (“Processor” Intel): NetBird for Intel Macs. Open the
.pkgfile and follow the installer. - Linux: follow NetBird’s Linux installation page.
- iPhone, iPad: NetBird on the App Store.
- Android: NetBird on Google Play.
These links go to NetBird’s official pages and the app stores.
2. Connect NetBird to STOA’s server
STOA’s server address, to copy:
https://netbird.stoa-preview.fr
- Computer: when NetBird starts for the first time, it asks where to connect. Choose Self-hosted and paste the address above. Already past that screen? Click the NetBird icon (menu bar on a Mac, system tray on Windows) → Settings → General → Management Server → Self-hosted, then paste the address.
- Phone: open NetBird → menu → Change Server, paste the address and confirm.
On a computer, one command does the same (Terminal on Mac and Linux, PowerShell on Windows); it also opens the sign-in page of step 3:
netbird up --management-url https://netbird.stoa-preview.fr
3. Sign in
- In NetBird, click Connect. Your browser opens NetBird’s sign-in page.
- Choose the STOA (Keycloak) sign-in, then sign in with your STOA account: the same e-mail address, password and passkey as in “Before you start”.
- NetBird shows Connected. Keep it connected while you work in the Hub.
4. Open the Hub
With NetBird connected, open this address in your browser, then Sign in (Se connecter) with your STOA account:
https://hub.stoa-preview.fr
Bookmark it. Next time: NetBird connected, then the bookmark.
If something goes wrong
- The invitation link has expired: ask your STOA contact for a new invitation.
- NetBird refuses the sign-in (“not allowed”, “does not belong to any of the allowed groups”): your account has no access to STOA’s network. Write to your STOA contact.
- The Hub does not open: check that NetBird shows Connected; if not, Disconnect then Connect.
- New device: do steps 1 to 3 again on that device.
- Lost phone or passkey: tell your STOA contact at once; they block the access and send you a new link.
